The supposed new Love Island will sadly not return after a "frosty reception."

Survival of the Fittest, which was billed as the Winter Love Island, set in the South African savannah, has been given the chop after just one series on ITV.

The show, hosted by Laura Whitmore, was an "expensive and ambitious" choice for the channel and seemed to be a gamble for the channel, who have chosen not to go back and risk it again, according to TV sources.

Danny Dyer's daughter Dani featured in the show for the first episode, but was sadly forced to leave when she dislocated her shoulder.

But things worked out well for Dani after she went on Love Island, and ended up winning with her new beau Jack Fincham.

Two contestants on the show, Warren Phillips and Mariam Musa, found love and are still together now, but even the comic stylings of Brennan Reece could not save the show.

An ITV spokesperson told MirrorOnline: "There are no current plans for a further series of Survival Of The Fittest.

"It was an ambitious and brilliantly produced show and we’d like to thank Laura, Brennan and all the team who worked on it."

But Love Island broke records for ITV2, and will likely continue to impress as the ratings don't look like they are getting smaller with time.
