Stepping out in the baking London heat, the glam ladies donned eye-catching cocktail dresses to greet the crowds at the inaugural event for the 17th season.

Coronation Street actress Catherine, 35, stepped out in a fairytale-inspired gown in violet and turquoise, dotted with glimmering sparkles.

She wore her caramel locks in light waves, tied up in a high ponytail and cascading around her bare shoulders.

Broadcaster Anneka, 60, channeled 1920s flapper style, with a turquoise dress, showing off her lean pins.

EastEnders actress Emma, 42, went for a Spanish-inspired number, all red, with frills and flowers galore and a jaunty split at the front. 

She wore her brunette tresses in light waves around her features, looking very excited to be getting started on the show.

Strictly Come Dancing burst onto screens 16 seasons ago, in 2004.

The original line-up featured Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, both of whom are still on the panel in its current form.

The two long-standing stars were joined by original head judge Len Goodman.

The trio of dance pros were joined by Arlene Phillips, through to 2008, which marked Arlene's final season.

SEASON 7 - SEASON 9

Len Goodman, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli & Craig Revel Horwood   

Having taken part on the series as a celebrity contestant, Alesha Dixon joined the panel in the first Strictly shake-up.

Arlene was given the boot, after six seasons, with the BBC stating that the show needed a refresh.

This decision courted controversy at the time, with fans accusing the BBC of discrimination against older women on television; the BBC, however, strongly denied this.  

Alesha had appeared on season 5 of Strictly and had won it, with dance partner Matthew Cutler.

Head judge Len had to sit a week out and was replaced with Jennifer Grey - star of Dirty Dancing.

Jennifer was the winner of the 11th season of Strictly's US counterpart Dancing With The Stars.

In Len's absence, Craig was head judge.

Alesha swapped Strictly for the Britain's Got Talent judging desk, leaving a spot to fill for the dance series' 10th season.

This was when renowned ballerina, Dame Darcey Bussell was drafted in alongside remaining stars Len, Bruno and Craig.

This wasn't Darcey's first time behind the desk; she was a guest judge from the quarter final onwards on season 7 of the show. 

Special guest: Donny Osmond was a fifth judge during the third week of Strictly 12

SEASON 12

In the third week of Strictly season 12, American enterainer Donny Osmond joined the four regular judges behind the desk.

This meant that the maximum score that week was 50 points.

He was also that week's musical guest, performing Moon River live on the show.

Shirley Ballas, Dame Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli & Craig Revel Horwood

The most recent incarnation of the panel has featured Shirley Ballas as head judge, after Len stepped down from the role after 14 seasons.

Len announced his retirement from the show, which left speculation rife as to who would be the next head judge.

While many thought Craig would be given the role, Shirley was appointed the job.

Flitting between LA and London, Shirley announced she was relocating permanently to the UK in 2019, suggesting she won't be going anywhere any time soon.

SEASON 16

Guest Judge: Alfonso Ribeiro

Fresh Prince Of Bel Air actor Alfonso Ribeiro stepped in one week in October when Bruno could not appear in 2018

The actor was well-known for playing Carlton in the American sitcom - famed for his own dance moves.

SEASON 17 

Shirley Ballas, Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood & Motsi Mabuse

Pro dancer Oti Mabuse's sister Motsi was announced as the new fourth judge for the 17th season of Strictly Come Dancing. 

The announcement was made over the summer of 2019, after Dame Darcey Bussell announced that she would be exiting the show. Of her departure, Darcey said: 'I have enjoyed every minute of my time and will miss everyone from my fellow judges, the presenters, the dancers, the musicians, the entire back stage team, and especially the viewers of the show.'

Kylie Minogue did not disappoint when she took to the stage to perform, with the clelebs and pro dancers joining her for her set.

The singer, 51, appeared to take inspiration from the 1920's as she slipped her petite frame into a white dress covered in layers of fringed tassels. 

The Australian pop sensation strutted along the performance space in nude heels that elongated her shapely pins as she was joined by a host of Strictly professionals who performed a choreographed routine behind her as she took to the mic.

Kylie left her golden locks down in loose curls and as she swished her hair about she gave onlookers a glimpse of her diamond encrusted hoop earrings.

The age-defying beauty radiated happiness as she flashed her pearly white smile as she sang and appeared ecstatic as the professional dance troop sashayed around her in glamorous white and gold ensembles. 

Earlier in the day, all eyes were on pro dancers Katya and Neil Jones who announced they were divorcing just last week.

But the twosome looked like the friendliest of exes as they rehearsed on stage ahead of the launch.

The former couple were in high spirits as they danced together. Sporting pink printed shorts and a black vest, Katya, 30, beamed as her soon-to-be-ex-husband wrapped an arm around her waist before lifting her off her feet during one particularly energetic routine.

The couple split after six years of marriage, but still seem to be close despite claims that a lack of passion contributed to the collapse of their marriage. 

A source told The Sun last week: 'Neil was very open about the fact that there was no passion between them — that they didn’t have sex. 

'He said they spent all their evenings together lounging on the sofa in comfy onesies, watching Disney films like The Lion King and The Little Mermaid.

'They had been together for so long that obviously they were close, but as friends. The intimacy had drained from the marriage.'

The publication also reported that the British performer 'insinuated' that Katya was 'jealous' of him as he became more famous and that he believes he could be 'bigger than Anton Du Beke.'

About Emma: Raised in South Kensington where she was head girl at Queen's Gate School. She later attended University College London where she studied History of Art. Following her marriage in 2013 to Ceawlin Thynn, Viscount Weymouth, Emma became the chatelaine of the Longleat Estate in Wiltshire. In 2015 Emma launched 'Emma's Kitchen' at Longleat, a space for her to share her love of food and cooking using the backdrop of the original kitchens within Longleat House. In addition, Emma is a contributing editor for British Vogue.

About Will: In January 2017 Will was awarded an MBE for services for Table Tennis and is currently training to defend his Paralympic title at the Tokyo 2020 games. He recently won Gold at the Japan Open 2019. Will has suffered from arthrogryposis since birth, a rare condition which affects all four of his limbs. Will is classified as a Class 7 Paralympic athlete and was one of the stars of London 2012 and Rio 2016 games, winning consecutive silver and gold medals.

Will says: 'I’m so proud to be on the show, it’s my family’s favourite show. I have no dance experience at all, but I hope I can do well. I want to inspire people with a disability - that would mean a lot to me. I want to prove to people I can do this.'

I have finally become the son she hoped for! I think I’ve got a little bit of rhythm but I went to Leeds University and I studied theatre and performance for the first year and I had to do contemporary dance. I spoke to a lot of people who had done it in the past and people said it's the scariest thing they’ve ever done. But you have to challenge yourself. I’ve turned down other reality shows. I just want to make my mum proud.'

Anneka says: 'I haven’t danced since I was 7 and Miss Beer sent me home from my ballet class because I was hopelessly uncoordinated. My family and friends haven’t seen me dance since, not at a wedding or round a handbag so it’s going to be a challenge for my partner. In fact I’ve asked for two, one on each side. I can’t see myself in a long frilly dress either. But I’m feeling recklessly excited. Strictly has always been my Autumn’s entertainment and now I’m part of it! My children will probably leave the country.'

About James: Olympic rower James was banned from taking part in Strictly Come Dancing last year by his wife because she was wary of the glamorous professional dancers – and the ‘Strictly Curse’ that has triggered a string of very public break-ups among the celebs. Now, just a month after being granted a divorce, the double Olympic champion oarsman has signed up as a contestant on this year’s series of the hit BBC show. His decision to take part in Britain’s biggest entertainment show comes just months after his split from Beverley Turner, his wife of 17 years who nursed him back to health after a near fatal brain injury. Beverley, 45, had previously refused to let him take part in the show because she ‘didn’t want him having some Russian f***y in his face every week’.

James says: 'I’m really looking forward to being a part of Strictly this year. Having spent so many years mucking around in a rowing boat with big men in tight lycra, it’s time I learned a new skill. I need to apologise to my kids in advance for the embarrassment.'
