There Is Life After Talking Heads

Public Affairs Program Covers "The Way We Live Now"

I watched your program today. It was a breath of fresh air. Our country deserves and needs your reminder of the humanity and values that has made it great.”

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA, August 18, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The profound changes that have taken place in political journalism are the subject of a special edition of “White House Chronicle,” airing this weekend on select PBS stations

The broadcast marks the 20th year.

"White House Chronicle" has been on the air. Host Llewellyn King, a veteran journalist, said the program has evolved from being a talk show about politics to one about "the way we live now."

“When we started we had a simple mission," said King, who is also the program's creator and executive producer. “There were only a handful of politics talk shows at the time. We wanted to showcase print and radio journalists whose bylines and voices people knew, but who rarely, if ever, appeared on television."

"Now television, with five politics channels, features journalists all the time, often saying much the same thing," he said, adding, "That is a sea change."

The program had to move on, if it was going to stay relevant, according to the program's co-host, journalist Linda Gasparello. "I think we've met that challenge and we're a better program for it,” she said.

"We are very proud of our episodes on the future of work and the gig economy; cybersecurity; sentencing reform, the development of graphene, a new material; 3-D manufacturing; and the changing electricity supply situation," Gasparello said.

King and Gasparello said they were especially proud of a recent series on the future of the oceans, featuring scientists and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).

"Station response to our content has been tremendous. We're adding more and more stations," Gasparello said, "And we still have our pole position for talk shows on Sunday in Washington, airing on WETA-TV, Channel 26, at 9 a.m.," said Gasparello. In Washington, the program also airs Saturdays at 6 p.m. on WHUT-TV, Channel 32, which is its PBS originating station.

"White House Chronicle" airs nationwide on 200 PBS and public, educational and government (PEG) access stations, and the commercial AMG TV network. It airs worldwide on Voice of America Television and Radio. An audio version airs three times on SiriusXM Radio's P.O.T.U.S. (Politics of the United States), Channel 124.
